Accreditation
What exactly is the value of accreditation? My institution is currently scrambling to get regionally accredited (they're already nationally accredited).
Rebeca,
Absolutely! It is prestigious to have. All the hard work pays off!

So true, accreditation process equals an organizational diagnose resulting in an update and improvement of procedures and paperwork fitting the best to your institution.
Lauren ,
Accreditation is exhausting and expensive. However, by preparing for accreditation, you will learn so much about your school!

At our institution we have undergone our particular program's accreditation and also our regional accreditation. Both are a very serious process for the school, but also a great reminder of the importance of each person's position within the school and the information that they make sure if collected and conveyed.
Angel,
You have learned well! Both are very serious activities for a school. You must be licensed and in good standing to seek accreditation. Once accreditation is received, any action may affect the consideration of each.

Aixa,
It is more about finding the right accrediting body for your school. Both regionally and nationally a creditors have their benefits. The key is that they are recognized by the USDOE. There are many bogus accrediting bodies out there.

Great question! I've definitely followed all the corresponding posts...This post caught my I because I had no idea (that is, before taking this course) that whereas licensing is mandatory, accreditation is optional. However, my institution takes both very, very seriously.
Is that the only benefit of being regionally accredited vesus nationally accredited?
stan ,
It also means that your school is recognized by an agency accepted by the USDOE and has gone through the rigors of additional scrutiny.

Accreditation lets a prosective student know that we do what we say we do. Also, it serves as accountability for the institution and serves as guide posts, maintaining ehtics and high standards.
Allida,
Transfer of credits is determined by the receiving institution. There is no guarantee even between schools with the same accreditor.
Patty Aronoff
My understanding of the difference, as it applies to my institution, is the transferring of credits. We are nationally accredited and are seeking regional accreditation. Right now our credits can be transferred to other institutions, as they see fit. With regional accreditation, the credits are already approved for transfer to other regionally accredited instituions.
Ronald,
Accreditation brings the ability to apply to the feds to disburse financial aid to the students. This gives the school wider opportunities to package their students. Regional accreditation carries more prestige.
