Credit Transfer

Is it required to accept transfer credits from other institutions? Mine currently does not.

Melissa,
I encourage students to do the research and provide them tools to do so.

Patty Aronoff

Mattew,
The catalog should state that transfer credits are determined by the receiving institution.

Patty Aronoff

Any thoughts on how to present this in addition to the "matter of fact"? We always state this and reiterate it to prospective students but this is often something that hinders him/her from making a decision to enroll. Curious whether or not anyone has a follow-up statement when having this conversation that makes it not sound so negative without being mis-leading.

Typically not, however it is dependent on the individual institution.

yenniz,

Stay true to what your catalog states, " it is up to the receiving institution." It is the students responsibility to research.

Patty Aronoff

How do you answer that question and say compliant?

Holly,

You are correct in the process. Most schools that accept transfer credits require an official transcript and there is a time limitation.

Patty Aronoff

Tammy,

Yes, it is. The student must be aware of the policy at the time of enrollment.

Patty Aronoff

Tammy,
It is up to the receiving institution. Most schools have a range of one to five years depending upon the school.

Patty Aronoff

Anelys,
No it is not required. In fact, many schools do not accept credits for transfer.

From what I've discovered, credit transfers are not required to be accepted at any institution. It is up to the receiving school whether or not the course in question is "up-to-par" with the course they have at their institution. A rep from the school typically asks for a syllabus and course description to see if the two courses are similar in nature as to what was learned in order to accept the credits, but all-in-all, they don't have to. There should be some regualtion on this part in my opinion...

I believe it is up to that institution.

How far back do we go to accept credit transfers from college or other institutions for the program they are seeking, is there a cut off or is it up to that institution?
