Attending Staff Meetings

I agree with the training course, suggesting regular staff meetings. This is the place to exchange ideas, to know new rules/regulations, to get new updates, to get new policies, and to obtain feedback from bosses and co-workers. To also know if we can improve the way we do business and we are all in tuned following the institution's policies to maintain licensing and established protocol.

Sarah,

We areal part of the student experience. It is important to have seamless, informative experiences for the student.

We normally have staff meetings biweekly, we also have coordinators/assistant director of admissions meetings, visit coordintor/ assistant director of admissions meetings, as well as coordinators/ counselor meetings. This way any one position in the office is on the same page as everyone else in the office at any time. Some topics may not be pertinent to a staff meeting but are pertinent in the submeetings that are held.

Jill,
That really depends upon the needs of your department. Some meetings are a quick 5 minutes.

How often are these meetings and how long are they?

Christina ,
Sometimes we bring food (such as cake or cookies). It is amazing how food changes the meeting.

Jessuina,
Very much so. We need to pay attention to the atmosphere of the meetings to ensure that staff are engaged and motivated.

Jocelyn,
I agree. I will often assign a staff member to be in charge of a certain aspect of the meeting or even have rotated the chairing of meetings. They come away with a new respect and interest.

Patty,

I understand what you stated; however, it is imperative for management to include employees in on the meetings and even give staff the opportunity to conduct the meetings. It can be repetitive to hear the same voice over and over again. New voices can foster new ideas and provide a different take on the ways business is conducted.

Maribel, you stated that you feel that regular staff meetings are critical and I couldn't agree more. Staff meetings provide colleagues a forum to discuss what's working well, brainstorm on new and innovative ways to make the process for prospective students more efficient and to uncover any obstacles that employees may be finding. As a new employee this is extremely helpful as it allows the employee to understand the admission process and to engage with colleagues and management.

I agree with Patty. Having everyone engaged and present is important especially getting ideas and opinions from everyone together. This is the best time to discuss ideas to make the environment for the staff as well as the student a better place to be. Participation is best from everyone rather then just a few.

I agree in the respect making the meeting as engaging as possible. This will in turn increase attendance and focus in the future.

Meetings are definitly an importance source to stay on the same page and current to all changes rules and regulations. Having everyone ingaged and present is highly recommended

Maribel,
Some people really do not want to go to meetings. As leaders, we need to make meetings productive, informative and engaging.
