licensed but not accredited

how does one attract students when their college is licensed but not yet accredited?

Penny,

Accreditation is voluntary and certainly is not a necessity. Many schools are not accredited as it just does not make sense to do so. It does not take away from the great education students are receiving.

That is good to know that your institution practice ethical standards among students. I agree that staying a small learning organization provides more hands on approach. In my 10 years of being an instructor, School Director, consultant in for-profit career education, and a Doctoral candidate of Organizational Leadership in Education, I have witnessed many smaller institution create a school that was unstructured that lead to unethical practices, in which I believe to be lack of a transformational leader. Good luck to your school continuing to being the best that it can be in education delivery.

We have a very small school and are not accredited but I don't think it takes anything away from our school. And we most certainly do NOT practice unethically towards our students. It just doesn't make sense for our size school. We have great instructors, student services just like the big schools but we can give a much more hands on approach by staying small so we like it this way.

Tamecia,

It is an expensive process and well worth the effort.

I agree, We plan to accredit our institution as soon as the time period of operation has been met. From my experience of being in the CTE industry, schools that are not can most often practice unethical procedures towards the students. Accreditation is an expensive process but well worth the investment. Every school that I have graduated from were accredited and I had no concern with funding, credit transfer, rigorous curriculum, reputation, great instructors, student services, following of policies and procedures, and most of all I have had a successful career path. Most student that attend schools that are not accredit, are pessimistic towards the school.

Eileen ,

Accreditation is an arduous and expensive process. It brings many benefits with its award. However, there are many very credible schools that do not seek accreditation.

Patty Aronoff

Our school will be accredited because this is our goal and we will begin the application process soon.
Schools will be more credible if they are acccredited.

Ignacio,

Check with the program specialist assigned to your school at CIE. They will give you a list of accrediting bodies that are recognized by CIE and USDOE. You will want to match the right accrediting agency to fit the scope of your school and it so critical that it is an approved agency by both. Accreditation requires much effort on the part of the school and can be very expensive.

Patty,

I am interested in knowing mor about accreditation, since we are now exploring the possibility to start an accreditation process in Florida. Where can I find more about which institutions can give us accreditation, should we ask our assigned representative of the CIE directly, or is there a good source for this kind of information?

hadassah,
Many schools are not accredited. As long as you are licensed, your school may operate in Florida. Accreditation is costly and may not be an option for you.
