Transcripts
I always thought that a sealed transcript was official whether sent directly from the institution or brought in by the prospective student. At my current institution if a student brings it in it is unofficial even if sealed. Is this correct?
beverly,
That is perfect! The school should only accept official transcripts sent directly to the school in a sealed envelope.

When asking a potential student to get his or her transcript, I tell them to have an official copy from the institution they attended sent directly to our school. No questions, no problems.
sharon,
That is a common practice. Official transcript should be sent to the receiving institution in a sealed envelope from the office of the registrar.
Patty Aronoff
The best way to handle transcripts is to have them sent directly to the requesting institution. This insures the integrity of the process.
Evan,
Altered transcripts are considered fraud. It is against the law and should not be accepted in any form.
Patty Aronoff
Are altered transcripts a big issue or does this occur vfrequently? It seems very strictly inforced.
Ronda,
That is correct. Sometimes transcripts are sealed and will state on the on the transcript that it is issued to student. We cannot accept transcripts that are unofficial or issued to students.
