Life experience credits

Does the CIE have to approve the process of an institution awarding credit for life experience? How does this play into the approval of a new program?

Orane,
Many schools do not entertain the substitution of life credits for the very reasons you have explained. With the recent advancements that include technologies and new discoveries, the old established way may not meet the current innovative expectations.

I am in health care and education. In my experience, life-experience is a wonderful advantage in critical thinking and self discipline. However, with the advent of information and increased skill and knowledge requirements, I believe the persons who have been in a field may have been practicing one way, using unapproved methods and with flawed reasoning, and are typically the demographic that requires a paradigm shift in their approach to practice.

I would be interested in seeing the guidelines for using life-skills credit.

Melissa,

It is part of the catalog and reviewed by Commissioned staff at time of licensure and renewal. When the site evaluator visits the school for a site visit, they will review the files for compliance. Awarding of credit would be an institution policy.
