Transfer Credit
It is important to communicate the policies regarding transfer of credit into your institution. It is also helpful to be up-to-date on all articulation agreements your institution has with other institutions.
In admissions, I am often asked about whether our credits will transfer to other institutions. While the honest and accurate answer may not be the one students want to hear (at least, it is not as simple as they may like), it is important to communicate. Transfer credit and the policies relating to transferability of credit are always determined by the receiving institution. Students may suggest that they were told by their advisor (at the institution that they are transferring from) that their credits would transfer. This can be a challenging conversation especially if some of the credits do not transfer. We need to be aware that information they received at their previous institution may not have been accurate but we need to be understanding of how they feel when they hear the news that some of their credits will not transfer. Being empathetic is important but also having a thoughtful and sincere conversation about the rules regarding transferability of credit can be helpful.
Rosanna,
We cannot speak for other institutions but can only speak for our own. It is the students responsibility to research the school that they would be transferring the credits to.

It is extremely important to get the information when it refers to transferability of credits taken from another institution, as it is in tranfering out. as well. You want to be able to give the most honest and accurate information to a prospective student, so no suprises or misunderstandings at a later time.

wan,
It is not a guarantee. The determination is made upon many factors.

I an assuming that if our school is accredited then we will almost certainly not trasfer credits from a non accredidted school? However if we are non accredidted it would be more up to are discretion?
Thanks
Juan,
It remains up to the receiving institution whether or not they will except credits from your school. No different than your school decides whether they will accept credits from another institution.

This is always a delicate subject. It is best to stay compliant when talking about transfer of credits. We actually have a multimedia presentation, in which one of the slides and script guides us and tells us what exactly to say when referin to transferring of credits within our school systems and out of our school system. By me following the script and presentation, it allows me to stay compliant.
