Counselling in the Admission's Process
There are applicant students, primarily the older ones who come to register for a class but has a fear of competing with the recent high school graduates or others of higher learning, can you give examples of how to handle this technical situation?
Most of our older students encourage goals and responsibilties with the younger ones. We find that when they work together they strive to learn. They are the role models for our future leaders.
Adrianna,
So well described! All students bring their own dynamics and the connection is amazing.

I always stress that every student has the same fair opportunity to take advantage of the resources the academy has and of all of the education and student services. I love having older applicants because I find that they have great work ethic and they are mature and confident in knowing what they want. I love encouraging all of the students of all different ages to connect and grow together because we can take pieces from a mix of individuals to create our own unique style.
Megan,
Our classes in our sector are very mixed. What is important is why they are coming to school. I would redirect to the reason why they are there. This is where they connect, sharing the same goals, no matter what the age.

Anette,
They should not fear for actually it is the older, returning students that drive most classrooms. Instructors are the best defense in this area and should be in tune with the dynamics of their classroom.
Patty Aronoff
I usually discuss the average age in the classroom and it usually averages older than recent high school graduates. This usually helps ease their nerves.
