Online programs
What is the best way to discuss the time frame an online program can be completed?
Alton,
That is a great practice. The student should be well familiarized with the catalog.
Patty Aronoff
I would use the catalog and go over all the material the student would have to cover.
Carmenza,
If we understand the challenges before us, we are better able to cope with them.
Patty Aronoff
When ask that question, i normally refrend them to learn about their learning styles. Also, we talk about how diffrent topics come easy and how some come with challanges.
I provide examples, of what my experience has been with certain topics and how I have found way to succeed trough understanding my chalanges.
londa,
Online is not for everyone. It takes dedication, self-management,being proactive, time management.
Patty Aronoff
Many students have the misconception that on line is easier and less time consuming. It is important to advise students that on line is independent but has time restrictions and deadlines and will require dedication and discipline.
Junior,
We should prescreen as if we do not, we are setting the student up for failure. Their success is determinate upon their ability to complete the requirements.
Patty Aronoff
Sherri,
I would suggest that you start with examining the rigors and requirements of your program. Having online assessments is a good way to start. Since each online program has different nuances, build your assessment to determine success in outcomes.
Patty Aronoff
This information would definitely help because it appears that most diploma program candidates do not have the aptitude nor diligence to complete online programs. It would be good to pre-screen them before entry.
Could you provide guidelines for 'screening' potential students applying for online classes that would determine them likely/unlikely for success?
Chanquinta,
Students must know all the requirements of an online program. Online education requires self-management, self-motivation and attention to detail.
Patty Aronoff
The best way to discuss the timeframe of an online program is by having it posted the moment a student logs in. That should be the first thing they see when they log in as a reminder.
Greg,
There is nothing worse than missing a deadline. Key in on the management tools and self-management to keep on track.
Patty Aronoff
Jessica,
Msap it out! Visually seeing the requirements will make it real. Give dates.
Patty Aronoff
You need to specify the time requirements for the program. How the student chooses to complete the program varies. All practical or clinical services time frames where the student is required to attend on campus or at an approved facility, should be clearly stated within the expectations of the program completion limitations.
