You are correct! There is a misconception about transferability of credits and most student just assume they will transfer.

Students are told, yes, your credits will transfer, and, yes, theoretically they do , but if they don’t transfer toward your major, that’s a waste of time and money.
Even where transferring credits is feasible, it can be extremely convoluted and misunderstood.
For example, while some credits from one school may be acknowledged by another, they may not count toward a major, something students often don’t find out until after they’ve transferred.
