Enrollment process and financial aid
Should completion of the FAFSA and Master promissory note be part of the enrollment process or a separate process?
STEPHANIE,
The student loan process sometimes provides additional benefits of additional money. Students sometimes use this money in order to cover living expenses or other items.
Patty Aronoff
I believe that it should be considered part of the enrollment process, considering that the student has to fully understand their responsibilities and commitment when enrolling under a school. A lot of times, if it weren't for financial aid, the students wouldn't even be in the doors in the first place. Thus the MPN should definitely be a requirement as a confirmation of the student's references, as they are affirming their commitment to the repayment of student loans at the beginning of their enrollment.
Valerie,
Financial aid is a private affair. Most schools have separation of duties when it comes to admissions and financial aid. It is a best practice.
Patty Aronoff
For our institution it is solely part of the financial aid process. That would mean the prospectives personal financial information would be in the hands of too people. Which that than becomes a security issue of one's personal finances.
Karen,
It is part of the admissions process. However most financial aid is completed in a separate department but is part of the enrollment.
Patty Aronoff
Absolutely not, It is a conflict of interest for the admissions rep to be a part of the FA process.
