under 18 years old students
why is the best way to do the enrrollment process with applicants less than 18 years of age?
Lisa,
Yes, always have the parent or legal guardian present. It make everything so much smoother. They must be present for the signing of documents, so just have them there from the beginning.

Andre,
It certainly can take care of sticky situations by confirming they are truly over 18.
Patty Aronoff
Lauren,
Absolutely! I would not recommend conducting any conversations with a minor without the parent or legal guardian present.
Patty Aronoff
I always involve the partent if they are under 18 right from the beging with tour and introduction to our facility
I think it's also a good idea to ask for identification prior to starting the enrollment process. That way we can verify that the information the student put on the application is accurate.
It is important that you confirm they are over 18. If not, they will need to have their parents involved in the process and sign paper work with the student.
Megan,
You must have that legal authority there. A minor cannot conduct business without them.

What is the best way to handle a situation with a prospective student who is a minor but is not in contact with their guardian?
Brian,
We should never have contact without the parent present.
Patty Aronoff
While it is not common for a minor to seek out our institution, it will happen on occasion. Upon initial contact, admissions members should request to also speak to a parent and then invite both the prospective student and parent in for further discussion and interview.
Lidia,
I would not even engage in conversation with a minor without the parent or legal guardian. It is for your protection once you find out that they are underage.
Patty Aronoff
The best way to enroll a prospect whom is under the age of 18 is to have the parent or legal guardian present in the enrollment process.
I think that the initial meeting should be with parents and student. Many people at this age are still very dependent on their parents, and don't know what questions need to be asked, nor are they aware of how student loans and pell grants work. This is the opportunity for both parties to understand what the next steps are going to be.
Norlan ,
Exactly, and it is better to have them there from the start.
Patty Aronoff
my suggestion would be to have the parent or guardian present, without either, there's no enrollment.
Nakia,
Under age students must be respr3esented by their parents or legal guardian.
Patty Aronoff
I agree because if the student is still under the age of 19 I always say the buying committee (parents) need to be present especially when your discussing cost with the prospective student you can always provide answers to the parents questions and they can also see what their investing in as far as tuition.
Nadia,
I beieve the best way to aprroach this is to ask the prospect if they are under age. Once they reply that yes they are, then proceed with saying that in order to continue enrolling into the school that you will need the parent to co sign.
Christina,
Absolutely! They should always be in the presence of their parent or legal guardian.
