Quality, not Quantity
It's all about the student not about your numbers.
Hi Patty, I agree completely. If most owners subscribe to what you have stated indeed everyone will benefit from the results. I have found that with the emergence of the "large corporate presence", and with he profits being the bottom line, we have moved away from hat simple premise that got us into this industry to begin with.
Yes, students can sense if you are being insincere and if you are passionate about education your passion will be conveyed to the student. I believe wholeheartedly that education changes lives so passionate about helping to inform students of the benefits of our school.
John,
A quality education is that the student is seeking. For them, they are making a huge investment in both time and money.
Patty Aronoff
While quantity is better for the bottom line, we, as professionals, must focus more on the quality of those students we produce. This can be assured by a good admissions policy, as well as a high quality teachung staff.
Allen,
Historical information gives you so much more than words on paper. They tell the story of where they have been in order to best serve their dreams for the future.
Patty Aronoff
The quality interviews must be based on historical information. We have historical information on the success of students. Their success is based partly on what they bring to the program. The interviewer needs to know what those criteria are and base the probing on those facts.
Thanks,
Allen
Daniel,
Very well stated! I have heard some count the number of seats filled, rather than understanding there are people in those seats.
Patty Aronoff
Adrianna,
Quality is very important. If we just enroll numbers then attrition will rise and we really haven't advanced the school. If we enroll people, we have a better chance of success.
Patty Aronoff
Begin with the end in mind makes everyone a winner. Schools succeed when the students they enroll are successfully placed into the career field they worked so hard to achieve. Numbers mean nothing if student success isn't the primary goal.
It really is about the quality. If you focus on that then I believe the institution will continue to uphold an ethical and professional reputation.
Denise,
If we do the right thing, the numbers will result in what we want. I am a firm believer in this.
Patty Aronoff
I realize meeting numbers is very important but my main focus has always been the student and assisting them in life changing opportunities to a bigger and brighter future. This will never change.
Harry,
Yes, it is unfortunate. They give our sector a bad name where so much good really does happen.
Patty Aronoff
It's unfortunate that some institutions focus on quantity and not quality to increase their profit margin or make the budget.
Rebecca,
No, they will end up dropping from their studies, incurring debt and the school loses another student.
Patty Aronoff
I completely agree with determining if the student is the right fit for our school and our programs. It is not in anyones best interest to enroll someone who is not passionate about the program they are enrolling in. It also looks bad on the school if the drop rate is high.
Sandra,
Their success is our success and measured by their experience. We should begin with the end in mind and that is placing a graduate.
Patty Aronoff
Career Schools should focus on providing a win win situation for both student and school. Numbers and profit should never be a motivator because the success rate for retention, passing and placement will be an issue later...just as i have observed recently.
Joseph,
They truly can see through it. We are dealing with people and their futures. Very important.
