need to be ethical
you need to be knowledgeable of your schools offerings
People are skeptical enough as it is. That's why it is importatant to conduct ourselves in an ethical manner. The last thing i would want, is to lessen someones excitement and motivation about furthering the position by appearing dishonest.
I agree.....I guess the best way for me to stay focused w/being ethical is considering if I had a son or daughter..applying for school...how would I want them to be treated? How would I want an admission professional handle this task of helping my loved one make an educated decision for their college choice and program?
If you are not able to adequately explain what your school offers in a way that the prospective student understands and not just a basic description than you are missing the point and worse doing an inservice to that person and your school.
Being ethical is also conveying information that the prospective student may not want to hear. Not just telling the student what they want to hear just to get an enrollment. It is critical to make sure the program fits the prospective students needs and wishes.
I agree, being ethical is a vital part of our job.
Being ethical is KEY we need to make sure that we are providing each student with valuable information that is correct and able to help them make an educated decision about their future.
The key is to find the right fit for the student; not what the admissions person wants them to take...
That's true. O lot of admissions reps have no idea of the depth of what their schools offer
Absolutely agree. We cannot make a program something it is not. All we can do is give prospective students all the information about a course of study, dispel any misconceptions they may have, and answer questions. If ultimately the course of study is not what works best for them, we should respect that. It is, afterall, about changling lives for the better with the great programs that we do offer, not unethically making programs out to be something they're not. In the end, this helps everyone with school satisfaction and retention/graduation rates!
A very good point Kristen. It is important that the information that we give to students is congruent with the information that they may receive from other sources such as the internet or television commercials.
it is important to have knowledge of the course material, so there is not any misleading informaiton given
We represent our institutions daily. If we don't display ethical behaviours to our students our schools lose all credibility.
Agents should be held to a very high ethical standard. Without that we are not only negligent but can do untold damage.
I think being ethical is critical. What we are doing is helping people to change their lives through education. They have to be able to make the decision for their own future.
This is why we need to have the most updated information to give out to our students. This way they can make good decisions.
This is true. We have to stay aware of updates and changes in programs being offered so that we sound knowledgable and confident on the phone.
I would say that is a very strong observation. Students rely on us to provide correct and detailed information regarding the questions and concerns they may have. The lack of knowledge can hinder your ability to help answer the students questions correctly.
Absolutely. What student would be inclined to apply if one did not know what programs were available or applicable to the students needs. Ethics will go a long when applying a student especially if you make it about them and the choices they can make.
