New to Higher Education

I recently changed my entire career path to pursue a dream of mine. I have always desired working for a university. I have been hired as the Director of Admissions, and would appreciate any guidance or advice that will prepare me for my new career.

Hi Corey,

Congratulations on your new role. Since you have been recruited for the role someone saw potential in you. I am new to the field as well as an admissions representative. I encourage you to be ambitious and realistic when setting goals for your team and let them know that they have a strong leader that will push them to their limits and also be their support system.

Bon Chance (Good Luck) in your endeavors!

I myself am new to higher education. I recently started my new position as an admissions officer and have learned a great deal. It feels great to be in a position to help students advance their education and change their lives. I too look forward to developing into a knowledgeable admissions representative.

Welcome Corey! As a "newbie" myself I am excited to start the process of developing into a knowledgeable Admissions Representative. I'll be checking back for any guidance more experienced agents would like to share.

Hello Corey,

I too have recently changed my entire career path. Although, I am well-educated in K-12th education I have found that there is a big difference between secondary and post-secondary education. There are different rules/guidelines as well as different certifications one must obtain.
My advice to you is to get all the necessary training and certifications that you need to be successful in your field. Also, stay up-to-date on best practices in higher education and do your research!!! Congratulations and Good Luck to you!!!

Congratulations on your new position!! I started in the HS Admissions field in 2008, and was recently promoted to the role of HS Director of Admissions. While I haven't been in my role for very long, I would definitely encourage you to try and create a cohesive team atmosphere within your campus. This may or may not include a High School team, but also Finance as well. If everyone is on the same page and working towards one goal (helping students change their lives' through education) the campus as a whole will succeed. I wish you the best of luck!
