Hello Class!

My name is Eric. I have been in college admissions for nearly 2 years now. I find the most important aspect of being admissions representative is the ability, as the module reflects, to be an expert on the programs and policies of your institution. The inability to adequately relay information to the student shows weakness and may sway the student out of attending your institution.

Another thing that is very importany, obviously, is to stay positive. If on the phone or in person, talk with a smile. Your attitute directly reflects the tone of your voice. Thusly, affecting the impact and effectivess of your conversation with the audience.

I think it is helpful to talk with the students like adults. explain clearly what your school has to offer. I try not to over sell I want them to understand what programs our school offers.

I think it is important to treat all potential students as individuals and not categorize based on prior responses from others. Also, while I agree it is important to sound positive, I think sometimes over enthusiasm translates to "sales" and some people dont like that. You have to adjust your personality accordingly.

I will be in classrooms doing presentations for High school seniors so all this information you posted will be great encouragement and words of wise for me. Thank you.

Another helpful thing is to be open and upfront from the get go. I have had so many students thank me for not beating around the bush with them. I give them each respect. They seem to value that greatly.

I agree, we must be the constant factor in a situation. We must set ourselves as a role model and not act differently. We should act as we want done.

I agree. I just had a student talk about instructor attitudes. Sometimes it is hard to be positive with difficult situations and different things going on, but we need to make a conscious effort to be a good role model for our students and prospective students as well.

I find it easier when I smile and visualize what the student looks like! I can be more friendly

I think memorizing your outlines so you aren't reading directly from a "script" will enhance your ability to be more confident and speak with a smile and more conversationally. It's all about quality conversation and making a student feel comfortable!

Positivity is very important and the reason you (and others) are able to project that is because you are accountable for your actions. Couple that with a desire to be fully educated on your schools programs and policies - and the student walks away feeling positive about themselves and their own decision making process.

Positivity is very important, not only in recruiting students to go to school, but through all aspects in life. When we are smailing on the phone, as we are talking to perspective students, they can "see" or rather hear that smile. This simple smile and enthusiasm can and will make a big difference. The student will confide in you because you have a good attitude. It is true what they say, a smile does go a long way.
