New to the Admissions Role
I have never been in Admissions before. Is there any words of advice or tips that I can use to be successful in this role?
i would just tell you to take it all in and really keep and open mind. This way you can really see what the studemt need are.
Hello Evan, this is also my first time in an admissions "role". I have experienced the 'sales' aspect of business, however, the training I have undergone these past 2-3 weeks has opened my eyes to the benefits of finding out What's Important To the Student. By understanding the potential-students' needs and wants, I can better determine, how, or if I can help them. Ultimately this helps the student gain trust, and benefits the company which I represent
Really great advice for any position you take on, but especially important to remember for the admissions position. Entering school is a huge decision, and keeping this type of support in mind with each student will help you keep the eye on the ultimate goal of helping our recruits
I feel the best advice I have been given so far is to be honest, open, and understanding to your students. You need them to trust you, to understand you are here to help them. The information you provide to them can at times be overwhelming and confusing, so it is important to make sure they understand what you are telling them as well as see why it is important to them. Being open with students is something I have found to be the hardest aspect of being in Admissions. You have to sometimes be open to discussing things the student is uncomfortable discussing. Why they are choosing to come back to school, what has stopped them in the past. Sometimes things they have not discussed with anyone else. Finally being understanding to the student. This is a big decision in the students life and they need support and understanding from someone who is going to help them. They might not have ever had someone to give them an opportunity like this before, and it can sometimes be scary. I hope remembering these three things will help you Evan.
