I agree that it is important for an Admissions Advisor to have information about Financial Aid. As an advisor, you don't want to know too much financial information because it can pose as a conflict of interest.

The relationship between Admissions and Financial Aid is one that needs to be open and honest. If there isn't constant communication and cooperation between these two departments, the quality of service that we offer students greatly decreases.

I've spent some time working in Financial Aid in the past. At the time, I was very knowledgable regarding all the different options but things change on a daily basis.

I completely agree that having some knowledge of other departments is helpful for you and the student but you do not want to mislead the student by giving them the wrong answer. Leave the information to the experts or guide them to the right person to talk to.

Sarah,

That is a valid point. I always believe that we should leave certain aspects to the experts. Having an overview of financial aid is acceptable. I would not want to give incorrect information that could cause a potential to believe inaccurate information.
