New to Admissions
Hello! I have just started my career in the field of admissions and I have noticed some interested topics that come with the job. First is that you have to understand the knowledge needed to promote and sell the school and its programs. Second, to get students to come in and enroll it takes a lot of foot work in terms of calls, emails, answering questions, and scheduling appointments. Third, once a student gets to their appointment you have to access whether the programs are right for the student and the student is right for your school. The job doesn't seem like it would be difficult, but it takes a lot to go through and assess all these small details. On top of all the work that already needs done, agents have to be extremely careful in their tact and the way they represent information to follow state guidelines. With all this work I wish anyone else that is entering this field, is to go in with your eyes open and be ready to work hard.
This is my first job in admissions. I am very excited and know this will be a rewarding job.
After working in Admissions for 5 years at your more traditional universities, I recently started here and look forward to a slightly different way of recruitment. Something that has defintiely helped me thus far; is the way I've been welcomed to the team with open arms and the sense that everyone from the top down wants to see each other succeed!
I feel that its up to us as Admission Representatives to use qualifying questions and really get to the heart of what the student is passionate about, because as we all know if you don't like what you do, then its just a job but if you love want you do, then its a career.
I am also new to the "field" and as naïve as it may be, I was unaware of the formal guidelines. I am grateful for the resources available and training available OACCS as well as reading the threads.
I am as well new to admissions. I am excited to see how I can apply my sales background and customer service to this position! This position to me seems like it is going to be so rewarding to help others get a kick start to change their lives. I definately agree with the job not being difficult but you have to stay on your toes for small details. Work smart, not hard!
I am new to the field of Admissions and I am very excited to assist students with finding a new career.
Hello Amanda!
I have been in admissions and worked for schools for over 10 yrs. I have found that if you focus on what is right for the student you will usually fall on the correct side of compliance. It is often when the pressure of hitting your numbers becomes overwhelming that the temptation to provide false information arises. Resist the temptation because it is never worth it. Not for you, the school or the student.
I too am new to the field on on line admissions. I do have relavant experience and am looking forward to the challenge and new way of working. Change is good and exciting.
