Transfer Credits
Why is it that transfer credits can not be accepted by all schools?
Yes, how do you explain the difference to potential students?
A few big questions potential students ask is "Is your college approved?" and "Will my credits transfer?" One thing I have noticed that although they are asking good questions they really don't know what they are asking. Potential students are told to make sure the colleges are accredited but they do not really know what that means.
When I was a college student I just assumed everything transferred. As a freshman I would wonder why does Sociology 100 does not transfer to Sociology 100 that has same amount of credit hours at transferring school?
I think all this should be explained in detail at high schools. There are many high schools that offer career services or prep classes. Does anyone know if guidance counselors understand the credit transfers?
I think it would be great to train teachers, librarians and guidance counselors on this. We want potential students to make the most educated decision for their future. Any thoughts?
Also some schools are nationally accredited while others are regionally accredited. Many regionally accredited schools will not accept courses for transfer credit from schools without regional accreditation.
Some schools offer different courses than another school and each course has to be evaluated by the registrar to ensure that the courses match up.
That question is asked a lot "will my credits transfer to a traditional college". It is always up to the receiving college on what credits will and wont transfer. But more than likely you will start out as a freshman. but if you are transferring from one Everest to another, 75% of credits can transfer to the same or similar programs.
Mark,
Not all classes/program are designed to be transfer credit. In addition, each school has their own standards for evaluating and accepting transfer credits.
