Rep behavior
Should we intervene when we see another rep acting inappropriately with a student?
I don't think fellow reps should intervene. That is a role for management.
Yes, I definately would agree with us intervening and bringing to the attention to the other rep of how inappropriate that he or she may be sounding on the phone toward a prospective student. At the end of the day we all here represent a team of one, and we all should help one another when we see that one of our fellow reps need coaching. Why shouldn't we help each other when one is needing improvement in a certain area?
Most definitley we should intervene if another rep is acting inappropriately with a student. However, I think the issue needs to be dealt with asap but in a calm and factual manner. If you have or have had kids, I think the matter can be handle in a way that reflects how you would want a rep speaking or dealing with your own daughter or son. The rep needs to keep in mind that acting inappropriately can destroy the moral of the prospective student or student. In addition, the negative behavior is a reflection of the institution and nobody wants a poor reputation where they are employed. Representative are supposed to be positive role models for students!
It is important to ensure not only that we hold ourselves accountable, but even those who we work with. Ethics at institutions is no different than in a corporate environment. The students are our customers and we're helping them with a life changing decision. I agree with some of the other comments that you have to report a rep that you have witnessed or suspect is using unethical practices. Everything is a domino effect in the long run.
You should! Each agent is a representative of the University and it looks poorly on the University if a agent is not acting appropriate to a student. Students should be the number one focus and treated with respect.
If you would not like that rep talking to your child, you may want to intervene. It is always easy to make a decision if we pretend that it is our family member being affected by someone's actions, including our own.
Absolutely. You are representing your school and reporting to the proper personnel is your duty.
