Clock hours vs. Credit hour

The school with whom I am employed uses a clock hour program. I found it very interesting to learn about the difference in policy between a clock hour school and a credit hour school, in terms of tuition refunds.

I feel like the credit hour and clock hour refunds would vary with clock being more exact and credit being more of a block refund.

The school that I work for does use a clock hour program for Cosmetology. It is important to understand the difference between both clcok and credit hours.

That's interesting, thanks for clarifying that for me!

Katie,

Degree level programs are almost always considered credit hour programs. Shorter programs at the diploma and certificate level can be either clock or credit hour depending on how the curriculum is structured.

I noticed with our school, the term "clock hours" is assigned to diploma and certificate programs, whereas "credit hours" are assigned to degree programs. Is this specific to our school or the general rule for applying the terms clock and credit?

the clock hours also make it harder for credits to transfer

Kori,

Clock hour measurements will affect refunds and will also impact financial aid for students receiving federal student loans.
