Conflict of Interest
I agree with and appreciate the laws regarding knowing basics about financial aid and other tuition assistance but then referring to a separate department for specifics. Integrity above all includes not selling financial aid/scholarships for enrollment.
I would not want to know too much about financial aid, the rules change too often. It;s best to let them talk to the experts.
Scott,
F/A advisors generally are not licensed, however, I would agree that admissions reps should supply only general information (similar to what is in the catalog) about financial aid availability and any specific questions need to be answered by F/A staff.

Don't you have to be a licensed F/A advisor to give them any more info other than what the catalog says?
I agree, our financial aid department is awesome and know the intricate details of their field. I am appreciative of their expertise as it is difficult to know everything about everything in our institutions!
What are some ways that a perspective student can avoid schools that may not be above bar in regards to the policies and procedures as set forth by state laws?
Integrity is a very important part of education. If the school has integrity it attracts students to a place where their best interest is taking serious.
