The Admission Process and Paperwork
The admissions process is a very important step that is where we discuss the process for entering the school and make sure that all of the paperwork is completed and explained to the student in detail. Setting clear expectation with your student on what is involved and what will be required of them always makes for a better experience. Of course you cannot set those expectation unless you fully understand the paper work involved, why it is needed and explain things clearly to your student to ensure they understand.
I agree. It is very important that the application process is explained very well. The enrollment agreement is a great tool to make sure students know what they are getting into.
You are absolutely correct. In the instance of students and agents, the agent is meant to be the one acting as resident expert in order to fully answer the questions, comments, and concerns of applicants. If the agent is unclear on what he or she is explaining or what the expectations and standards are, the applicant will most likely have a negative experience and be left with a great many unanswered questions. Therefore, although the applicant will certainly have questions which the agent must answer, it is up to the agent to thoroughly know all the material in order to best set the applicant up for success.
This is a very true statement. It is vital that your students understand the process and the expectations we have set for them. This will make the enrollment process continue without any problems. Learning what each document is in the students file is essential in order for you, as an agent, to completely understand and convey the importance of these documents being completed. These documents need to be completed in a timely fashion.
I also believe it is important to provide the prospective student with written explanations as not everyone learns accurate information by hearing it but may also need to have a hard copy to review.
I couldn’t agree more with all of you, the process is there to make sure we strive for the success of the student and the university.
Jennifer,
Financial implications are important. Many times Admissions counselors get so ecvited about enrolling the student, they do not consider the feasability of the familiy to afford their education. We must always have the students best interest in mind.
Hi greg you are absolutely correct. It's absolutely vital that a student understands exactly what they are signing including any financial obligations they may incur.
We must have a thorough understanding of exactly what the paper work is and thus we can explain it properly to that student. With all they have to do to get signed up, we have to make it as easy and smooth as it can possibly be.
This is so very true! When a student has a clear understanding of what is required of them, it makes it easier for everyone. That is why I am glad we provide a detailed checklist for them, as a reminder of what is needed and why. I use that same checklist when I have to remind them of any documents that are needed. It also tells me how serious a perspective student is, by their reaction to the list, and how timely they are in obtaining the required documents.
