Admissions
For the past 10 years I have been an online Admissions Rep. Now I am in a postion where I see students face to face. What tips would you have for me?
Smile! Just be friendly and make sure to show them you're listening.
I would say that seeing students face to face is a great way to connect more with them and personalize your session with them. Often times communication could get lost in an online format because the student isn't hearing you actually explaining the information, they are reading it. A lot of issues could be avoided if that student is with you face to face and able to bounce questions and responses back and forth with out delay. Face to face I feel helps get the information quicker making for a smooth transition for their enrollment.
I have to say face to face with a student, build rapport, trust, and effective communication process.
I agree meeting face to face builds trust and value to the prospective student and a point of reference when things don't go so smoothly. Often times a student won't discuss their personal lives with others, but they will go back to Admissions because that's a safe place for the student until he or she is familair with the staff and faculty. Everyone must build up their own rapport with the student body.
Amy a face to face with a student is much more personal. The only advice I would have is your first impression is very important. I always try to break the ice with a question as to what they enjoy doing. Such as sports, hobby ect .That seems to break the ice. Thanks and once your there you will automatic connect
I agree. I have been involved with customer service for almost 20 years and in that time, I have learned that there is nothing like reading someone's body language to learn what they are truly thinking or feeling.
I have done both, and nothing compares to being able to look into a potential students eyes to see if they are following. Equally helpful is the body language of their guest. Do they understand and appreciate the information and process? It is important to gauge understanding before proceding to the next step. We cover a great deal of important facts and it is up to us to make sure the person in front of us leaves with a clear understanding of what will be required to be a successful student in our university.
Face to face is a great way to build rapport with your student. It also gives you a chance to check out some of the facial expressions some people give.
As I learned in my training, communication that occurs between two people is 55% visual (with the remainder being intonation and words). This will provide you with the opportunity for greater success!
Meeting with Students face to face is a great way to build a relationship on a personal level
Using a face to face option is a great way to show thte student that you really care about making sure that the needs are meet & that they are a good fit for your school
