Cap and Gowns

should cap and gowns be worn for all graduation

My school uses caps and gowns and my opinion is that all schools should. Graduation is an important and special time and should be treated as such.

I beleive students should wear a cap and gown to graduation. It makes the event formal and student, family, and friends attending can share in this momentous celebration. It's the 'icing on the cake'.

LaShonDa,

I think you have a good point. Graduates should not be forced to purchase a cap and gown. However, I do feel that is should be a choice for a student to wear them if they wish and should not be mandatory for every graduate. If a graduate decides to wear the Cap and Gown it should be provided for them.

With the large amount of my student base being adult learners I see the argument that it should not be mandatory for a student to attend a graduation ceremony. I feel that it should be highly encouraged for all students to go! Back to the question at hand “Should Cap and Gowns be Worn For all Graduation” To me the Cap and Gown is symbolic they symbolizing success and knowledge in American culture. However, I do recognize that in other cultures the cap and gown can symbolize something else. With that said I feel that it should be a choice for each student if they wish to wear them. I do feel that a graduation should be a formal even regardless of what the Graduates wear.

yes, cap and gowns are part of the experience that makes graduation great!

I couldn't agree more. A formal graduation ceremony complete with caps and gowns allows the graduate to experience the celebration with fellow students and friends/family. It is such an important moment in their lives. Our Admissions team NEVER misses a graduation ceremony.

Yes, I believe that is part of the entire education process. A lot of work goes into getting a degree. It is only right for the graduates to be acknowledged the right way.

A formal cap and gown ceremony is very important to the students and their families. Some of our more "mature" grauates have never experienced the pride of a formal ceremony. That is such an important part of being a grad. And of course sharing that with family is priceless. By all means, YES!

We have a formal graduation for the main graduation times of the year.

Our school does caps and gowns. Graduation is held each year and the accomplishment of each student is recognized in front of family and friends--his/her support group.

My school does not use cap and gowns. We do a formal dress graduation and have a nice banquet after the ceramoney.

Yes, I believe they should be worn. I also believe caps and gowns should be provided by the school. Students should not have to purchase them out of their pockets.

Bernadette:

Its really up to the individual schools how they choose to recognize graduates. However, most schools that have formal graduation ceremonies utilize caps and gowns.
