Facebook messages, texting and e-mail are just a few ways to capture a student when they are non-responsive to incoming phone calls.
I seldom text because you have no way of knowing if the student received it. Email you can have receipt that the message was delivered and when opened. Texting is fun communication but not professional. Email, voice mail and even snail mail with registration confirm that you made contact with them.
I do not like the idea of Facebook. Depending on the topic, the world can see what you posted and I have to believe that would violate privacy laws.
A combination of calls, mailers, emails, and texting should be use to contact prospective students...Everyone communicates differently useing various forms of communication provides the best customer service
I believe that with today's technology there are many different way to contact students. Many people like to use texting or social media. The phone should not be the only way to speak to students. Many students have busy schedules and have decided to take classes online for this reason. So make it simple. Use all resources.
I believe the reson so many people respond in text these days,is because talking on the phone has started to become an inconvienence to a lot of people. It's quicker and avoids a lot of unwanted phone conversation when you can get straight to the point.
We do not have company phones so sending text are not the first choice. However, on occasion it has proven to be the only way to get in contact with students. I have had students who I called and called and did not respond until I texted them. I believe that the form of communication should fit the person, if you have already spoken to or met them in person. If one fails you may need to try them all. It can never hurt to try. We are now getting a new system that will allow us to text and communicate in other ways and I believe it will make a great difference.
Been in the business for a while and I have used texting only on a very limited basis and I haven't had much success. Is there anyone out there that's having great success with this?
I would love to get some feed back.
