Utilizing Social Networking Sites
I'm curious if anyone has found the best way to incorporate youtube to promote their school; and if anyone has found twitter to be helpful for adult students?
Social media is a tool that should be utilized for any school. Not only will it attract future students, but it will also help current students become more active in their school community. Facebook is probably the most widely used social media site, and therefore should be utilized. Facebook allows schools to update their students with information while also being able to post pictures. Using Facebook can help to create more school spirit throughout campus. The same can be said for Twitter. The only downfall to Twitter is that there is a limit as to what can be said. It is not quite as interactive as Facebook, but is still very popular nonetheless. Both are useful social media websites that can create student participation.
We have used youtube for many of our advertising videos. This is a great way to send prospective students and their parent to the site to see what we are all about. We slo have a facebook page , that helps as well . These are two great assets for us becuase they allow us to use that medium to connect with our students.
Facebook is definitely a helpful aid to advertising and promoting a certain college. The percentage of students seeing that advertisment is very high considering how many young adults use facebook on a daily basis. Youtube could also be helpful but I think would give the same outcome as advertsing on television since most videos are watched depending on the most popular and most highly viewed videos.
While we do not rely on Youtube we have discovered that Facebook has been extremely reliable for networking with current students. In fact, many students prefer to communicate through Facebook. We have many of our student-led organizations on Facebook which is a great way to network all of the clubs together.
