How effective are Social Networking Sites?
I'm curious if students have the ability to chat with a live person from one of our schools directly from Facebook or comparable sites? Or is there just a link to the general website?
I think that social networking sites are a great way to keep our organizations in the loop and exciting. However, chatting about if a student is going to enroll or not takes away the face to face personal experience and trust in my opinion.
Terri,
The Board's advertising rules are the same, regardless of the format.

we have a facebook page but are not utilizing it - right now. What would be some good ways to make use of it? anything NOT allowed?
I'll have to see if we can do this at my institution as well... this seems like a good way to keep that emotional link in place...
It's the new way to interact with students, get in contact and set up a relationship for the future.
Social networking sites are a great way to build relationships between students and their school. Every time a lead logs onto their Facebook they receive an update (hopefully) making them feel more a part of the college's community. There is direct messaging capability on Facebook but I think a more effective way of communicating with students via chat would be a chat feature on your institutions admissions page.
I have to agree on this point. Sites such as Linked in are truly beneficial for maintaing relationsips with out of state students as well.
I am new as well, but in my experience as a student of the past, social networking sites did a great deal in my education and contacts with my local college.
I am new admissions and a lot of my fellow co-workers use social networking such as linkedin to keep in touch with current students and prospective students.
With how many people use social networking sites now it is a great tool to utilize when trying to keep up or reach a new or current student.
I think it's a great tool to use to stay in contact with students and new students.
