Social Media and Marketing

Is it appropriate to make a request to friends and family to "share" information about your school's programs, so long as you do not promise any compensation to them?

If I am recalling correctly, though this may depend on your school, there may be some internal social media and marketing policies to be aware of. While you may be able to say where you work or share information, you could be limited in how you share that information and who you are sharing it with. Some schools, including the one where I work, limits marketing to official school materials only, and does not allow employees to produce their own. I am not sure if a social media page would come under that, however, most official pages - FB, Twitter, Instagram, et al - are handled by the marketing and PR departments and not by admissions reps themselves.

I feel sharing open house is a great ways to share with family and friends that the school has these events. Anything further would require an appointment. If you limit your details not only do you stay in compliance with state regulations but you avoid having people making personal appointment that are not truly interested in attending school.

I think it's a great way to let people know about the school. Just make sure nothing is being promised or guaranteed in your post.

I do not think it is inapproiate to have friends and family share information in regards to your school as long as their is not any money, or promises exchanged.

I wonder when this will be regulated since it is a form of marketing.

LISA,

There is no prohibition to sharing information about your school through your network of friends and family.
