Knowing what Student Services your campus provides
Although we do not have a separate department that deals only with providing student services to our students, we do have many resources that are known throughout the entire campus to point our students in the right direction for everything from housing to daycare and carpools. Everything is housed in a binder for easy access as well. What sorts of Student Service Resources do you have on your campuses?
No doubt it is crucial to know what the school offers but it is even more important to know the needs of the student. Knowing what service meets the students needs gives a higher propensity for the student to feel the school is right for him/ her.
Our school does not offer a separate student services department either. We do have a career services department to help student find employment. The campus holds special events such as cook outs, guest speakers, and field trips. These events help the students feel apart of the campus. All of our students are commuters therefore we do not offer housing. These special events bring the students together.
I strongly feel that Student Services is important to student retention and the corner stone to a happy student. Many types of students attend our school and need differrent services that could prevent them for obtaining excellent attendance and even keep them from achieving the grades they are capabile earning.
Know your product.The best salesman knows mostly about his product, but knows EVERYTHING about his customer.
Student services provides resources for things that may prevent a student from attending school. This includes; childcare, transportation, food, shelter etc. They are also there for support and someone students can come to throughout the time they are attending the program.
Having all students services gathered together in a binder or printed for the students help them to see everything that is offered to aid them in multiple ways. My school offers students activities, services, activities, and the ability to get involced and volunteer in the community to which our campus is apart of.
Career Services is an invaluable benefit for students that have no job experience in their field of study and it is also a great help for students who have never prepared a resume or understand how to conduct themselves in an interview or is Career Services a feature? I had to say that.
I know that my school offers Career Sevices for students that involves helping them with a resume, interview styles, and even a job board for student who need a job while they are in school.
