Facebook
Is a facebook page a risk for an admissions rep?
I think it could go either way. When you post volunteer activities that the school is doing on the school facebook page I think it grows the reach if you tag yourself in the picture. Maybe you could make a seperate account just for work? I can see however, the potential problems with having students as friends on facebook.
I think it is important to keep your facebook page professional. At anytime a student can look your name up and if they see unprofessional things on your facebook it can give the school a bad name. I also think it is important to ensure you are not talking bad about your job or anybody that works with you. This can also look terrible for the school.
I think that as long as you conduct yourself as a professional, Facebook may not be an issue. Also, it is important to understand that who you associate with (family, friends, aquaintances)should also not act in an unappropiate manner as it is easy to associate their undesired traits to yours. A recommendation would be to use LinkedIn, but again, as a professional.
I certainly think it could be. I dont believe you should share your facebook information with any student. I think anytime you are a professional you need to keep your facebook as such.
I do not think so if the admissions rep makes their profile private and does not post anything on their page that could damage the school's reputation.
I was just talking to my HR rep about this. I was worried about saying the wrong thing. She explained that the strictness varies from place to place. When mentioning the school specifically, I have to attatch a statement. However, most of the time when I posted my positive "Loving my first week as an admissions rep", it wasn't a big deal. As long as we keep in mind that we are a representation of our schools no matter what we mention, that there are attatchments we may have to use when being specific, and to not post anything negative about the school, we should be fine. Then again, like I said before, strictness and policies may vary from place to place.
