Resource Notebook (New and Old documents)
I've found using a resource notebook is vital. I also never discard any old information, if something changes at our school I like to have the previous information.
I love having the old stuff, you never know when you are goign to have to look up an old policy for someone!
I also keep a notebook with all the updated infomation from my school. Good to remove outdated info.
I also agree that keeping all information updated is crucial. I keep all old information in a file and labeled as such. It is great to be able to referrence past procedures and how they've changed. Especially with students who are familiar with your school and or program.
I am new, and I'm so appreciative of everyone's advice in managing their resource notebook, by keeping both old and new information as a reference point. Starting good habits in the beginning will ensure good habits throughout my career and thanks for all the great advice.
I started a resource notebook during my training and have added more sections as time has gone on and training has increased. This agent training has definitely showed me where my notebook in lacking and I plan to use the given websites to enhance my notebook.
By updating the resource notebook I am always current. By keeping the "old" material you can see the progress and changes made. It also helps to clear any miss understanding with potential students. For example, a new student says that is not the way it was two years ago when my friend was a student. By looking back you can show how requirements have changed. The more information one has the better, old or new.
I'm new as well but I have kept all my info from the beginning just so I have reference material.
My resource note book is like my bible i have everything in it new and old. I keep all the old stuff color coded by years and the new stuff is in a different color. I keep it all in the same book and just put tabs on the pages so every admissons personel can refer back to it thats how i stay up todate on all the new laws.
I do the SAME thing. Admissions info is rapidly changing. I have some nice folders & binders that have old & new Admissions info inside. It's always good to go back & refresh yourself on things you may have forgotten.
That sounds like a very good idea. I'm new to admissions but I think this is a practice I will definately apply.
