I do agree. Another thing to do is listen for background noises of kids, pets or others. It then allows you to ask about the "noise", often turning the focus back on the prospective student and opening them up quickly.
I agree, learn to know the caller and adapt to them.
You can keep prospects on the phone by listening, sharing your experience as a student, and giving advise on how to make it through school successfully.
100% agree. BE positive. Smile through the phone. Don't be fake. Don't get distracted!
Keep students engaged by asking open ended questions. Find out what additional education will help them accomplish. Stay up beat positive and keep a smile on your face.
Let the student do more of the talking people like to talk when they have someone to listen to them. Stay positive and focused in on the students concerns, thoughts, and reasons why they want to achieve addtional education..
Tone, excitement, and sincerity are definately the keys to keeping someone on the phone and setting the appointment. I generally put myself in their situation for a minute. What would I want to hear on the other end of the line if I were in need of a new career or were requesting additional information. Each call must be its own
I like to try to connect with them finding a common interest. Such as kids or animals or something.

Be sincerly interested in what matters to them. They can pick up on what seems fake, like small talk - weather etc. Be kind and patient - they need your help.
I think the biggest mistake you can make is sounding rehersed or bored. If you put your personality into every call and keep it in a natural format they are much more comfortable talking to you.
Find some way to connect. Ask about interests and hobbies. Connecting with them will make them remember you as well as your school.
Keep them interested and keep an up beat tone. let them know you are here to help and have active listening skills
Always remember that this is their first contact with you and your school. It may be your 100th call of the day, so always be aware of your tone, your level of excitment and your sense of urgency to want to help them.
Be yourself...be friendly, ask them questions that will get them talking about what they like.
