placement services

Do schools need to have a placement service available to students?

100% think that this is something that schools need and should offer. After all the true test of what we are doing is setting people up for success. If we do not do this then we are just in it for the quick buck. Not a good way to show off your school to others that want to be apart of it.

Our career services department offer a lifetime membership for graduates of our school. I think this is very beneficial for graduates. I know when i graduated from college i did not have access to my career services department which could have helped me alot in my job search.

Our Career Services department meets with students the day that they arrive at orientation. The process is ongoing, with assistance in resume writing, interviewing, and resource materials.

I think it would be a great benefit for institutions to offer Employment placement after graduation. Many times it is extremely difficult for new graduates to obtain employment once they have their diploma.

Placement services are not only the right thing to do for your student, but it has also now become a necessary component as most workforce investment boards are now using a school’s placement statistics as a means of determining whether or not a school is able to remain on the eligible training provider list.

I agree that it is important to have these services in place, however, I also feel that it is imperative that agents inform the prospective students directly about these career placement services. Many times these services are underutilized due to lack of student knowledge about the service.

I think that the placement assistance available is invaluable. Our school offers smaller classes than many college experiences and that sense of "helpfulness" is evident in all disciplines here. When a student feels like a person, not just a social security number or student ID number, their success factors soar! I believe too that once students know about the assistance available, it makes them work that much harder in their programs hoping we might be able to "put in a good word for them" based on knowing first hand their dedication to forward momentum.

This training module reminded me to get additional information from our Career Services so that I am informed when I talk to potential students. Being informed about what is happening in career service is so important because I feel more confident and knowledgable when I interview prospective students--they are concerned about what their future will be like, and I should be too.

Paul:

In accordance with Ohio Admin. Code section 3332-1-26, all schools must provide some type of placement assistance to students. The type of placement assistance available can vary significantly based upon the size of the school and the nature of the program being offered.

Placement Services is an excellent tool in aiding current students find a job and a great selling tool to prospective students.

Not only that, but resume help, interviewing skills will also be helpful to students.

I think they are vital part of the whole education process. Students go to school so they can prepare for careers. A school should provide the education but also assist them in putting that education to use.

Not only that but they will be available to help in making sure the student's cover-letters are also up to date.

Paul, you know this one, the abnswer is NO, however the existence of the Career services department is another tool to be used in order to help potential Students.

I believe that placement services are very important. Though they can't guarantee employment, they certainly help to make the transition from school to the workforce less stressful for the student. It's fair that a student should expect assistance with finding a job in the field they trained for from the school that provided the training.

Our institution has a primary role in assisting students that are nearing graduation. They will assist in developing resumes, conduct mock interviews, and assist in locating potential job interviews.

Most likely if they are a career based instituion. To be considered competitive a placement service or career service would be very benefical to a perspective student.
