Know your student
Not every potential student is the right person for the program they are seeking. I feel such as Nursing the person has to be going into the field for the right reasons. As admissions representatives we change lives and hopefully for the better in the end.
Yes, getting to know our potential students is a must. It is all to often what they think they might want to do is not what they may be qualified for or have a mind change when courses are explained in more detail.
Knowing your student is a very important part of the enrollment process. Each student is different, and has different needs and goals. Knowing their personal situation will help ensure a successful student
I definitely agree. Sometimes, individuals may be very interested and determined on a certain program and that may or may not be the best decision for them and their future. I believe it is incredibly important to fully understand the individual and help determine the best option for them. They may not have looked at other options and we can help with that.
It's important for admissions representatives to thoroughly understand each of program so that we can help the students to determine which program is the best fit for them.
It's so important to help them get into a program that they're passionate about. School can be hard enough and if they're not convinced that they're in the riht program, it's failure from the beginning.
Its very important to know your student and what their future goals are so you can motivate them and help lead them in the right direction.
If you clearly understand your students requirements and goals, then you should have all the resources necessary to assist your student in the right direction.
This goes back to my own post in the #rd Forum. It's important not only to fully understand the different programs my school offers, but also what fields, positions, careers, salaries, and etc. students will be introduced to while working in the field. It's my job to understand that career field and to completely make sure that a potential student understands it as well.
I too agree, it is important to get to know your student, as representatives, we are changing lives, we want to make sure it is changing for the better.
I have found this to be very true. Unfortunately, a lot of times people watch t.v. shows & think that's what it's like in the real world; however, this is not true. Once they understand what they'll be learning & what kind of career they're getting into they can make an educated decision on their career path & pick the right program for them. Can't have a medical assistant who faints at the sight of blood! But perhaps that person would still be great in the medical field, just on the administrative side.
I agree!! We want to student to have success in their future career, so it is responsible to make sure this is something they can see themselves doing long term. I think it's a great idea to have the students sit in on a class to see if they 'fit' with their potential program.
This is so true. And you have to make sure the prospective student knows that some of these programs they are interested in are not "A Walk In The Park!" They really have to make sure they have enough time to dedicate to complete the program. Something such as nursing requires a great deal of patience as well as a caring heart. So I totally agree with you on this, you have to know your student and ask the right questions to be sure they are a good for the program they are trying to get into.
Definitely! Its also a good idea to sit in on a class to be able to learn more about the programs themselves and be able to compare the programs' curriculums to those that would benefit the student and their needs/wants.
