Transfer of Credits
I am new to Admissions, but I find it especially challenging to get prospective students to understand that it is up to the receiving school whether or not they will accept credits from another school. Does anyone else get any disagreements from students on this and if so what do you tell them?
is it ok to say that though most credits are transferable it is up the the receiving institution on whether they will accept them or not? There is a thin line. I want to make sure im on track
At my institution we tell prospective students that if they only want to take courses for the sole purpose of transferring to another college/university then this is probably not the college for them since we focus our courses around career training.
Yes, I get pushback from certain students. They tell me that they don't understand why they can't transfer there credits since they passed the class. They don't understand that if they change there program the curriculum is not the same. And of course accreditation plays a role in this too.
I am too new to admissions and want to make sure i am not misleading students when I say we ARE accredited.
I think that you are saying the right thing. You can only inform potential students about how your school operates, even then there is much out of your realm of expertise that you should not speak to. We here have agreements with other schools that definitely accept our credits so that might be a great thing to tell a prospective student if this same situation exists for you.
