National accreditation vs regional

I am new to admissions at the College Career level. I am currently training and learning about state licensing and accreditation. Is it more beneficial as a school to be nationally or regionally accredited?

Melissa,

Both national and regional accreditors are recognized by the US Department of Education for determining a school's eligibility to participate in federal student loan programs. The US Dept. of Ed. does not recoginize any type of accreditiation as being "better" than another type. As a general matter, national accreditors are more likely to approve smaller career colleges and schools and regional accreditors are more likely to approve larger colleges and universites (including pubilc and private).

I am also somewhat curious about this. My boss had told me that there is no diference. The two are seperate from one another simply due to the accrediting body being a regional one or national one. One is not better than the other.
