Best Guess may be worst decision

Sometimes it is okay to just not know off the top of your head the answer to some of the questions prospective students may ask. The best thing to do is let the student know that you can find out the answer for them or advise them of who would be able to provide them with accurate information.

I completely agree with this statement. I think we have all come across this situation before and the correct way to handle it, is to simply say you are not 100% sure of the answer but will definetly find out and get back to the prospective student asap. I have even stopped interviews, and called the department that would have the answer for the student, so they would not leave without having all their questions answered accurately.

I would much rather have someone tell me that they are unsure of an answer and that they are willing to find out what the answer is even if it means I have to wait some time. Education is a big, expensive step and someone just guessing at an answer that could sway your decision is unacceptable.

You are absolutely correct. It does not do anyone any good to make things up.
