accreditation

why is accreditation is voluntary?

What are the major differences between regional and national accredidation? I am aware transferring credits is on of the aspects. What seperates the students? Which is best?

When an institution chooses to get accredited, that simply means they are volunteering to open themselves up to critique to ensure they are providing students with quality education.

I believe that the accreditation allows the schools to have stricter policies and rules than if not accedited

I see the value in accreditation especially because we are not eligible at this time. Not only prospectus students ask, but also potential employers. We are building a long term student/employee for their career.

I have found that most of our perspective students care about accreditation for the financial aid benefit. Most of our perspective students can't pay for our program out of pocket and do not have the credit to get a personal loan. I believe in accreditation and believe it makes an institution more reputable and is better in the long run. For us it means more students getting through our program and getting out into the workforce.

It provides credibility to the prospective student

Being an accredited school promotes accountability, quality improvement, sound business and ethical standards and also allows the offering of title IV funding to those who qualify.

Giovanni,

Accreditation is voluntary because most smaller, single subject schools do not need (and cannot afford the costs of) accreditation. Morevoer, one of the requirements for schools to become accreditted is that they have to be operating with students enrolled for generally a period of two years. Thus all schools begin as non-accreditted insitutions.

When a schools grows and wants to begin offering degrees and/or providing financial aid for students, they will be required to obtain institutional accreditation.

being accredited means getting title IV funding for our students

It's an individual decision depending on the campus.

It's an individual decision based on the educational instituition.
