Students and their understanding

It blows my mind the number of students that I have talked with about accreditation and what it is. There are so many students out there that have no idea why it is important, they are just looking for a school with their program. I feel that it is very important to tell them why they need to look for schools with accreditation and how that could benefit them in the long run when it comes to employment.

I agree. Students seem to know to ask the question "Are you accredited", but have no idea what that actually means.

Often times I will meet with students who have many questions about our accreditation. My first question is always, "What does accreditation mean to you?" More frequently than not, they have no idea; it's simply a "buzz word."

I also come across many students who have no idea what is accreditation mean. It is our responsibility as Admission officers to explain what accredited school is and difference between accredited and not accredited achool. I talk about our school accreditation during initial interview and also cover this during new student orientation.

We were just visited by the state for re-accreditation. I spoke to the students about the importance of our school in obtaining this. The students had no idea of how important this was to them.

We are in process of re-accreditation, and prior to our site visit we went over the process with our students and they too were in a fog!
