Qualified Students
We have a assessment test that we give all of our prospective students, that they must have a certain score for the particular program they are going into to qualify for that program. As admissions reps we try to engage the prospective students into conversations to uncover their needs and wants and why they feel that the program they are looking into
will be best for them.
We try to lead the students to ways of brushing up their skills so they are able to be successful in their programs of interest. Even throughout their time, we offer tutoring to help them through their classes.
Of course the assessment test helps to determine the general intelligence level of the student and his/her ability to make some correct answers while under to pressure of a timed test. But nothing takes the place of a thorough interview to get to know what is motivating the prospect and what they are really interested in doing for a career and if they are ready to fit this commitment into their lives at this time. (ie: tramsportation, daycare options, work schedule compatible with school schedule and backup plans for when things like car problems, child illness, enough gas or bus money to det day after day, etc. I also like to know who they have as a support system and why getting a new career is important to them.
At our school, each program has it's own passing score that must be met. If the student fails the assessment they must wait 6 months to re-take it. We give them resources when they leave though so that they can look at sample assessments if they wish to.
We had a student very interested in our school but whose reading skills demonstrated by his score on our entrance exam were not strong enough to have a chance to be successful with our curriculum. We found free reading classes at the local library that he is taking advantage of with an invitation to reapply with us after his skill improves.
We also use the Compass assessment to determine 090 courses or college level. This is just one aspect of our "interview" and qualification process. We go through a questionaire to learn more about the prospective student. This includes current and past employment, previous education, their motivation, family support for going to school and many other areas.
It is important that they have a comfort level about their decision.
At our campus it is very important to assist students throught the process of qualifications and help them make an informed decision.
We also have an assessment test that we give our students. This helps to determine if a student needs any additional help in math, english etc, thus making sure that they are qualified to go into the program they are interested in.
We also have an assessment test that our potential student are required to pass in order to enter into a specific program. If they fail this assessment 3 times, they have to wait 6 months before they can apply again.
There is a assessment test that is taken at our school as well for the potential student which allows us to know where they will be placed as far as Math English and Reading.
With so many options in high school course structure it is difficult to use the high school diploma as a clear determination of a students background level. An assessment test will give the school and the student a clearer picture of their skill set as it applies to the chosen program.
As an addmissions rep it is my responsibility to go over all the options a student qualifies for after completing the assesment.
Our school has added the Compass Assesment test for Reading, Writing & Math which helps asses the students and place them where they need to be. We also have a Nursing program and prospective students take the Evolve Hesi test. I do spend more time in the interview going over the requirements to enter each program, so the student is more prepared and can take steps to review prior to testing.
We also have an assessment test that we give our students. It is set in place to determine if a student needs any additional help in math, english and writing. If a student fails the test we provide tutoring and fundamental courses so that the student gets to the level they need to be.
what is the test score for the student to pass and how many questions? what happens if they fail test?
