Interesting, we have a telemarketing plan and I didn't realize that ours were actual employees of the school which they are.
I totally agree. If done properly, telemarketing can be extremely valuable to any institution.
This wastes the time of the admissions personnel. #rd party telemarketing employees have no vested interest in the school and that is conveyed to the prospective students and they can quickly realize they are just a number to that person.
I think that if a school is using telemarketing they SHOULD be employees of the school, as well as being trained so they remain in compliance as well. I believe that if they are held to the same standards of the school that the prospective student receives that same assistanc across the board.
Telemarketing is important because it is a very effective way to contact potential students. Most of our potential students are looking for a helping hand and by us reaching out to them we can change their lives!
I agree. Many of these outside agencies do not even know the programs of study that are available at that location.
We use 3rd party telemarketing companies and I think it's a terrible source to reach students.
Most of the employees are not knowledgeable about our school or programs. Also, the telemarketers job is to reach as many students as possible and practically push them off on us in admissions whether they are interested or not in college.
Telemarketing to prospective students is vital. In many cases this may be the prospective student's first contact with the school before ever meeting anyone. First impressions mean a lot. It is very important to stay honest and within the rules. We must all remember that this is in the "student's" best interest.
We have a business development the department that is our own internal telemarketing. My have training all the time to make sure we are doing the right thing. We are the outside team helping the internal admissions team...
I could see where this would be problematic to an instituion. We do not use any telemarketing thankfully. Only licensed agents (admissions) employees are speaking to prospects and students.
Telemarketing is an important aspect of some schools, however, this could also be an area that new or inexperienced employees could make some mistakes that could be costly to the school.
