counseling meetings
Why are schools responsible to give pre-loan counseling meetings before and after a student accepts a student loan?
I think that conducting financial aid couseling in a group setting is an excellent way to do things. I think this will allow for more questions and concerns to be made and addressed.
I like the term "service" whrn interacting with prospective students. To be compliant, and to provide the best "service" responibility of loans and re-payment need to be addressed.
This is important to make sure the student gets the information more than once. This is important.
It is very important to make sure that student is given correct financial aid information such as tuition cost and loan eligibility information prior accepting student loan. Otherwise, it is considered a misrepresentation. All of our students must meet with financial aid counselor prior to starting school.
I agree this would be beneficial and even more beneficial for those who think of dropping out. This might encourage them to stay in school when things are getting tough.
All students need to be made aware of their options and responsibilities when it comes to their student loans. It's just another part of the service we provide to them to make sure they are well prepared .
I agree with this statement. Students must be made aware of their responsibility when it comes aid.
Absolutely agree with this comment. Prospective students see the rainbow, but sometimes there's not always a pot of gold out there. Education is the key.
I agree that these counseling meetings are important. Often times prospective students are not aware of how student loans really work and how it can affect their life down the road. Sometimes I think it would even be beneficial do provide a seminar throughout the program time as well.
I feel even if we were not required to give counseling meetings, we should. Student loans are a huge part of most graduates lives after graduation we should assist them by making the transition smoother.
Schools are responsible to ensure students fully understand the impact of the student loans they are taking out, and fully understand the importance of paying them back. Students must be made aware of their responsibility when it comes to title IV funding.
Jamie,
Federal and state regulations require that schools provide students certain specific information as part of the financial aid process. This should be handled by qualified financial aid staff.
