Background check
The background check is very beneficial to students. It helps students make good choices based on their background and keeps them from attending a program that they can't get a job in.
I would also like to agree with this topic. Backgrounds fpr certain programs should be a requirement. It would be unethical to enroll a student into a feild where they would not be able to perform. I attended a college where a student had a misdemeanor and was interested in the medical feild. The program director went as far as to contact the company's human resource department that hired our interns. She made them aware of the situation and student and there was an exception made on her behalf.

I agree that new students should be advised that criminal convictions are almost always going to cause issues with employability. Of course the students probably already know this fact. I would also recommend that if a school knows that graduates with criminal convictions are almost never employable in certain fields (criminal justice?), they should strongly advise students to consider a different program.

We have a Nursing program at our school and students are required to go through a background check before they are enrolled in a course that has a clinical experience. They are advised at orientation that this going to take place but I think it may be more helpful to do this before they enrolled in the program.
you are doing the student a disservice by not disclosing to them the barriers regarding employment in related field if their background will create issues for them
I agree completely. There is no sense in letting a student pay for and complete an education when they won't be able to sit for their licensing exam and/ or find gainful employment.
it would help if you could background check all students however its illegal to deny a student. a lot of convicted felons waste their money on programs that when their finished they cant get hired.
Background checks should be completed before they can start the course work. Otherwise the students take their time in getting it done and we don't know the background before hand
