Competition

I always believe it is the best practice to focus on your school's strengths rather than another school's weakness.

I totally agree. We have to remember that some times people want to hear all about you anyway and not about the other school. All schools have a reputation in the area,let's not buy into helping to destroy anyone else. Build the value of your school.

Karen, I agree. If asked a quetion about another institution's program, I always reflect it back to our school and tell them they need to get that information elsewhere, from another source that would be accurate and helpful.

Building on strengths is almost always the best practice. Certaining working on weaknesss is important but I believe we benefit most by building on strengths.

There is always going to be competition,So when I explain to a student about the different programs and what it has to offer,I believe it's all about me do they like me? do they seem interested in what I am saying? Do we offer what they are looking for? If so the competition does not matter, more than likely this is a perfect fit, and they will be a new enrolled student.

I agree with this also I am finding that prospective students are doing their reasearch.

I too believe that you should focus on your school strengths and avoid thinking about the other school weekness. Remember a student will reflect back over what was said or strick an interest according to the honesty they received.

It's best to just focus on the features and benefits of your own organization to match the benefits to the student's needs. The student can compare and contrast school on their own to make their own decisions.

Just provide correct and accurate info to the student and if asked about another school advise them to feel free to contact that school to get detailed info on their programs and practices.

I really do not get questions about competing schools all that often. When I do I simply say I do not know enough about the organization to say. Or if I do know something about the competitor I also will respond positively.

I agree with this. I am always surprised when the source of negativity from a student towards the school I work for comes from a competitor. It is just not how I conduct my business.

I agree, I always counter act a bad comment about our school with something positive.

I agree that most students have already completed a lot of research and chosen a few schools to look at further.

However, they may still ask you to compare your campus to another. At that time it is important that you have been listening to the student. You can tell them what you offer that they indicated as being important to them.

I would then tell them to contact the other school with those questions if they are not satified with your comparison.

I never talk about another school, only ours. If they ask me about a particular college, I suggest that they contact that school and get the information that they need from them. I would hope that they would want to continue persuing thier education with us.

With so much info online today. I find less students ask questions about other schools. Most students have already sifted through and understand where their best option is.

I strongly agree. If you focus more on the strengths your school has to offer it will easily eliminate the competition

You never want to say anything bad about another school. It makes you look bad. If a student wants information about another school, you tell them nicely that they should contact that school to compare.

Make a list of the things that set you apart from the masses. Use this list when discussing what characteristics set you apart from your competitors.

Agreed - the best solution for a student is found by listening to the student to determine their interest develop a plan to best fit their needs.

I agree. If you have to rely on bad-mouthing another school it diminishes your credibility.
