Diploma Mills

I can appreciate that there are strict regulations in place for diploma mills. It keeps legitimate schools like ours in good standing. :-)

It really can be sad news to break to a student if they have been robbed of their money. However, if the student is pursuing further education, it will help them be better prepared.

I have only faced this situation 1 time in my 9 years. I felt terrible and was not prepared to tell this girl she had done all that work for nothing. Part of me felt though that she had to know something was not right about the school she attended.

I do the same thing. Also, if I hear about a PDR that has not yet taken their GED or Diploma I inquire about where they are taking it and offer information on credible resources to find or receive a legitimate diploma. We have several referrals from students with GEDs and it stinks to find out that they are all bad. I usually try to make them take a class together for their GED so they have support.

It is not pleasant to give them this news, especially when they tell you they have paid $300 for something that is not valid. I discuss with them the GED option when this happens and even give them a list of GED testing facilities.

I fell terrible when potential students think they have a legitimate diploma and then find out that it isn't.
