Diploma Mills

I have met several students who have paid alot of money to receive their diploma. These students really believed that they were receiving a real / valid diploma.Unfortunately, these operations or fake institutions prey on individuals that would just like to make a better life for themselves and family. Who does that! Shame on them!!

Our school has had this problem also with fake high school diplomas. It is very unfortunate for the student. We always check the source before completing their enrollment process. This is a very important step on our process.

I agree, it is very sad how diploma mills take advantage of students. Not only does it prevent the student from getting admitted into the school of their choice but it also chips away at their determination and makes them hesitant to even try again.

This practice of people paying for a quick fix to receive their High School diplomas has been going on for years. It is sad to see someone go through the admissions process and then be denied due to their high school diploma. In addition, we sound like the bad guys because they have attended a college before and it was accepted by th insitutions as proof of graduation. We all need to be on the same page with this particular topic. It's sad.

I would agree with you that the student sees a school is "accredited" and they assume that it is a valid high school diploma. I believe the government should work harder to shut down these types of organizations. It is very disappointing to have to inform a student that their diploma is not legit.

It is very sad when someone feels they are receiving an actual diploma and have spent hard earned money to pay for it. These schools need to be shut down!

Unfortunately in our society some individuals are motivated by profit or some other motivator that creates persons to do things that are not truthful and honest. The old adage "if it seems too good to be true it usually is" High schools could also bee of assistance in informing students how to find reputable institutions for pursuing their goals of higher education.

It is a shame that someone is really trying to get ahead or get back on track gets taken advantage of. It breaks my heart to tell them we don't accept their diploma. I try to encourage them to keep going, don't get discouraged and get their GED.

I agree with your comment, it's sad how places do prey on those seeking high school diplomas, this list of non legit mills should always be getting into hands of hs guidance counselors and other community centers/organizations to spread the word of their falsehood. Gary

I hear this all the time. The student is completely taken advantage of by these organizations that trout "the get results fast" diploma.

It is a true shame. People need to really stop and think..if it seems like a wonderful deal or is too good to be true, it probably is a scam. I fell for those who have been unknowingly duped.

Unfortunately, some students are attracted to the diploma mills without the knowledge the credential is of zero benefit to them. On the other hand I've dealt with students who have tried the traditional method of earning the GED and were unable to meet the criteria.

We have a list of diploma mill schools as well - however it is not always up-to-date. If there were a way for recruiters to have an acuratelist when we are speaking with students, it would behoove us to have one. It would make our application process a little smoother!

Unfortunately, I too have spoken with potential students that were scammed by a degree mill. With their research, they’d read accredited and assume it was a real/valid diploma. This does create roadblocks in their desire to attend college. I wish more could be done to shut these diploma mills down. Our institution does keep an up to date list of unacceptable high schools which truly keeps me aware.

Our school keeps a list of approved and unapproved non-traditional high schools. This helps up evaluate the school up front and inform the prospecitve student of their options during the interview process. Prospective students fine it very helpful if you can guide them through the process of contacting the diploma, requestinga refund, and stitting for an approved test, like the GED.

I absolutely agree with you. It is such a waste of time and money and even worse than that the potential students are devistated.
