Diploma Mill Victims
How often do you come across a students that have feel victim to diploma mills ?
I see students often that have been misled to diploma mills online. They are so proud and seem emotional when they realize they may not procede.
On a weekly basis, unfortunately. It seems that there are many high school diploma mills out there. I always discuss the interests of the student first and get a greater understanding of what it is that they want from continuing their education.
I will offer the prospective student some information about getting their GED if they are interested, or an institution that is credible that offers them to get their high school diploma if they still qualify.
From there, I follow up with the individual to see how their experience is going with the hope to see them through that step until they are ready and willing to step into the college portion of their goals.
Students often are angry and discouraged so realizing their anger isn't personally against me is important to them feeling heard. The most important thing is to help give the individual some options so that they can take the next step to accomplish their goals.
I have had occurrences with students who fall victim to diploma mills. It's really a sad situation. They may had situations in the past where they didn't complete their high school diploma. These mills come around promising accreditation and they aren't even able to be admitted into college with the diplomas.
I haven't through our college--because we're full accredited by the ACCSC. However, many students have had issues in their past with dipolma mills.
