Diploma Mills

It is so unfortunate how many people are out there thinking and feeling they have made a great decision to get their HS Diploma. Yet there are so many diploma mills out there now of days, especially with the ongoing advancements of technology, that are taking advantage of so many people trying to get a step further in life.

It can be so frustrating to inform a prospective student that the money and time they spent were for nothing.

It is horrible that organizations/institutions can steal peoples money on the basis that they offer real/legitimate diplomas. Individuals should research these places thoroughly to make sure that they are actually legitimate before paying any money or signing up.

It is very disconcerting when I am working with a student and their diploma is from a diploma mill. I often recommend they pursue their GED and just consider that HS diploma they got online is a lesson. I then schedule a follow up call after estimating when they will complete the GED, that way they have incentive to enroll and complete, if they are serious.

i agree that it is becoming more and more difficult to manage what is official. Too many advertisements that make it sound too easy are being permitted to be broadcast.

We typically try to utilize the database of accredited academic institutions posted by the U.S. Department of Education (www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation). It is, though, very hard to be certain every time, especially with foreign diplomas. People are getting very creative at making deceptive diplomas.

We have so many students enrolling with on-line high school diplomas. We need to delve into extensive research to find out, if these schools are accredited at all. Is there a list of accredited on-line high schools available?
